My Apprenticeship Journey - #NAW2018
Hi everyone - I hope you’re all well.
So, in case you didn’t realise, it’s NAW AND NCW this week. You don’t know what those mean? Jeez, get with it.
All jokes aside, this week is National Apprenticeship Week and National Careers Week - lots going on!
So, I thought I’d focus a little on the latter, as Further My Future are all about apprenticeships, in case you didn’t already know that. A lot of young people are rightly unsure about A) what apprenticeships even are and B) what they may entail.
So, I thought I’d explain what my ‘apprenticeship journey’ has been like so far (God, I hate that bloody word) so you can see *realistically* what I’ve been doing for the past 6 months.
Without further ado, let’s go!
1 - APPLICATION
I was a little different when it came to the application. Most people will trawl the tricky-to-navigate GOV website for an apprenticeship with little support, however I was super lucky, as I was already working with Further My Future pre-apprenticeship, when I decided I wanted to go for the Digital Marketing role.
But, we can help you. We totally understand how tricky it can be to find apprenticeships, let alone actually apply. Hit that sign up button down below to find out how we can change your life. Okay, not change your life. But make it a whole lot easier!
2 - INTERVIEW
In spite of the sweat-saturated clothing and shaky hands, interviews can be scary. As said previously, I already worked with Further My Future, so luckily for me, I was totally comfortable with the people who interviewed me. If you have an interview coming up and you’re feeling a little bit nervy, check out our blog post for interview tips here. You’re gonna smash it!
3 - FIRST DAY
Okay, so maybe the first-day nerves rightfully kicked in for me… how am I gonna get used to a 7:30 wake up call every morning? What if I don’t prove my worth? Where on earth round here does the tastiest lunch? My priorities are totally all there.
4 - FIRST FORTNIGHT
Let’s be real - going from university where I had 4-month long breaks to working every day is bound to be a shock to the system at first, but it’s amazing how quickly you find yourself totally used to the new routine... damn, even liking it. Routine is good for the soul.
5 - APPRENTICE LIFE
I have to say that, as an apprentice, I’ve never once felt that I’m treated any different to my colleagues. Our team and surroundings are so very comfortable *maybe too comfortable* and I’m very much enjoying the chilled out, pizza-loving vibe in the office.
So, there we have it - a very simple account of what my apprenticeship.... journey *vom* has been like so far. As my boss points out, I don’t do cringe, but I hope I’ve made a non-cringeworthy explanation here of what my apprenticeship has entailed.
If you have any other questions you’d like to throw at me, honestly, be my guest. Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org - I’d love to chat!
