5 Ideas For The Best Summer Ever!
Hey everyone! I hope you’re all well.
Summer is fast approaching and many of you will be blessed with 6, 7, 8, 9 week… maybe even longer holidays! Oh, those were the days. Well, I thought I’d bless you even more with some ideas of how to create the best summer ever. Let’s get started!
‘Volunteering’ might not be the most exciting thing that pops into your mind when planning summer, but hear me out! Whether you’re wanting to gain some genuine work experience or simply do something you just think you’d enjoy (like helping out at your local RSPCA), go for it and get out there!
It’s always worth a shot asking around for work experience in your desired field; you could offer a weeks work shadowing someone and it will look tip top on your CV.
Summer is the perfect season for travelling… especially in Europe when the weather *should* hold up nicely!
Interrailing is a fantastic way to see lots of countries in a shorter amount of time - it’s where you travel Europe purely by trains. With the interrail pass, you get access to 37 railway and ferry companies in 30 different countries. Why not give it a go this summer? Find out more information about interrailing here!
You may be a savvy scout who can pitch a tent in seconds, or you may not even know how a compass works (me) but camping is a great way to switch off, relax and get your nature fix. It’s also a great budget getaway, so if your bank balance isn’t quite ready for a holiday abroad, soak up some of England’s finest countryside instead!
I think us Brit’s really overlook how much our country actually has to offer, and sometimes take it for granted! I’m dragging myself camping (twice) this year, and if I can do it, anyone can!
The NCS scheme looks really fantastic and to be honest, I regret not doing it when I was at school! It’s for 15-17 year olds, and for just £50, you embark on a 3-4 week experience to ‘help build your confidence and self belief’.
The scheme is split into three sections - 1) adventure, 2) discovery and 3) social action.
At the first stage (adventure), you live with your new ‘team’ at an outdoor activity centre and do things like archery, canoeing and rock climbing.
For stage two,: you’re back with your group in a university environment where you learn life skills such as confidence and communication.
Lastly, stage three is where you make your mark! It’s all about delivering your very own social project - planning, fundraising and making a real difference!
If you’re in the age bracket, I really urge you to apply! It’s an opportunity that cannot be missed! Sign up here!
A holiday or festival with mates
Summer is the perfect opportunity to spend quality time with your mates - gather a group together and grab tickets to a festival or even book a holiday together! It’s a great way to wrap up exam-season, de-stress and let loose (although not too much.)
You don’t have to break the bank for either - check out smaller, local festivals for a more affordable option and keep an eye out for special deals and offers on holidays. Enjoy!
Most importantly, summer is the perfect opportunity to develop your skills or learn something new - if you don’t have the money or time to get away then make the most of your freedom by building on your strengths or finding a new hobby that could benefit you further down the line.
